Distance 16.1 km
To get to the easternmost point of Switzerland, we start our journey in neighboring Taufers. A steep but easily manageable forest path leads up to the Rifairalm, which is located in the Stilfserjoch National Park. Across pastureland we reach the Rifairscharte and follow the ridge along to Piz Chavalatsch. Shortly before reaching the summit, we become aware of the military paths that bring to life the history of the 1st World War. Once on the summit of Piz Chavalatsch, you can enjoy the breathtaking 360 degree view of the surrounding valleys in the lee of the summit hut, which serves as a weather station. An excellent view of Val Mora, Val Müstair and Vinschgau are possible. For the descent on the Swiss side, follow the ridge down and reach Müstair via pastures and forest paths.
