Buffalora - Val Mora - Sta. Maria
The Val Mora and the Val Vau are among the most pristine areas of the region, the mixture of wide valley and rugged mountains is äusely impressive.
The trail begins at the border to the Swiss National Park at the Buffalora inn. Past the Buffalora Alp, we climb up to the Jufplaun plain. The gravel path leads us level to slightly ascending to the crossing to Val Mora. Here a wonderful panorama opens up towards Italy. A steep, stony path leads us down into Val Mora, an unspoilt mountain valley with old pine trees, visited only by hikers and bikers. First through rocks, then on comfortable forest roads with views of the surrounding peaks and waterfalls, we hike through this beautiful valley. At Döss Radond (2234 m ü. M.) is the watershed, on one side the water flows through Val Mora into the Livigno reservoir, on the other side through Val Vau into Val Müstair. Now we start the descent. Passing Alp Praveder with its impressive rockfall area, we reach Alp Clastras. Both alps belong to the Müstair monastery. At Tschuccai the path branches off. We keep to the right and after some time reach Sta. Maria via the hiking trail.
