Distance 121 km
This starting stage takes us along the Upper Engadine lakes to St. Moritz-Bad, then via Celerina along the airfield and the newly relocated Flaz river to Zuoz and S-chanf. Then the valley narrows and we descend with a few short counterclimbs on the right bank to Zernez in the Lower Engadine. After an entertaining passage directly along the Inn, we switch to the left bank at Lavin and visit villages in the Lower Engadine situated on sunny and panoramic terraces, known for their picturesque architectural style with rich sgraffitti decorations. This section btingt us a few climbs and ends in Scuol. Now follows another section of pleasure biking on well-maintained paths on the right bank of the Inn, until we switch to the left side again shortly before Martina. The final section to Pfunds is characterised by the wild Finstermünz Gorge, which we have to pass on the main road. The crossing into the Austrian Tyrol still takes place in the gorge.
Note(s)
This tour leads "from the sources of the Inn" at the Maloja Pass along the Inn to Passau, then along the Danube via Vienna and Bratislava to Budapest. The stages are relatively arbitrary and can easily be adapted to suit your mood and the weather. Accommodation is plentiful, but it is best to plan ahead for the Vienna - Budapest section. The route is well suited for MTBs and touring bikes with luggage, but in some sections not suitable for racing bikes.
