The starting point of the trail is in Scuol, the main town of the lower Engadine and renowned wellness destination thanks to its numerous mineral water sources. Several village fountains provide mineral water from the source. The older parts of the town, Scuol Sot and Scuol Sura, with their typical Romanisch buildings, are particularly impressive. The Swiss National Park, the spa bath and of course the skiing area all contribute to the popularity of this place as a holiday destination.

The trail begins at the eastern end of Scuol. A gentle descent around many bends brings the skier to the first river crossing. Passing the little farming village of Pradella the track leads to Sur En, at the entrance to the Uina gorge. In former times there were three corn mills here, as well as saw mills, lime kilns, two tanneries, a blacksmith, a dye-works, a roller and a mill for extracting seeds from cones – difficult to imagine when looking at the sleepy little village of today! At Sur En – «over the Inn» in English – the trail crosses the river again. Alternating between open countryside and light woodland the track continues alongside the water.

The starting point of the trail is in Scuol. Numerous mineral water springs have turned the capital of the Lower Engadine into a spa destination. Some village fountains carry fresh mineral water. The old village parts of Scuol Sot and Scuol Sura captivate with their Romansh living culture. The Swiss National Park, the spa and of course the ski area have turned the village into a popular holiday destination. The valley ski run begins at the eastern edge of the village of Scuol. Over several bends and slightly sloping, you cross the Inn for the first time. Past the small farming village of Pradella, the trail continues to Sur En, the gateway to the Uina Gorge. In former times there were three grain mills, sawmills, lime kilns, two leather tanneries, a smithy, a dyeing factory, a roller mill and a cone mill here. Today, this is hard to imagine by the looks of this dreamy miniscule village. At Sur En – in English "above the Inn" – you cross the river once more. Alternating through open terrain or light forest, the trail always remains close to the water. A total of three additional loops, some with steep intermediate sections, offer variety on the way to Martina even for those who are familiar with this route. Although the border village of Martina only has around 100 inhabitants, it has two churches worth visiting: San Plasch dating from 1515 and San Niclà (12th century) with a monumental painting of St. Christopher. Furthermore, in Tschlin, located right before Martina, you can visit the printing museum "Stamparia Strada". The printing house was founded in 1680. Today, after a gentle renovation, the house presents itself as one of the best preserved farmhouses of the era and is a sight to see.

Author’s recommendation

The mainly flat valley ski run is full of short ups and downs. Those who prefer it a little more demanding will find a snappy variation on the loops (Lischana, Prà Spin, Ramosch). Refreshments are available in Sur En, Ramosch and Martina.

The cross-country ski race Passlung Martina - Scuol takes place along this route.
