Monte Scorluzzo rises as a free-standing and distinct mountain shape. It is flanked by the light-coloured rock formations of the Engadin
Dolomites on one side and the glaciated high region of the Ortles on the other.
During the World War, however, it became sadly famous. In 1915
the first three-thousand-metre peak in history to be militarily occupied and fiercely
occupied and bitterly fought over. A few remnants in the summit area
of that high-mountain war that lasted several years.
